Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet
A community dedicated to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political philosophies are welcome.
[uncensored-r/Bitcoin] Evidence some bitcoin address generation code is using discoverable private keys

I made my own Bitcoin address generator using Java.
I have no one to share this with that would care or understand what I’m talking about so I’m sharing my excitement here. I’m starting to understand the inner workings of cryptography a lot better now :) thanks Bitcoin.
I've used "https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com/" in the past without any problems, but with an impending transfer of the rest of my BTCs to paper I just want to see what else is out there. I've been very paranoid, and even when these are generated offline, the sites could potentially be programmed to create addresses that aren't random. Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks!
hello everyone. i have been reading and listening to a lot of smart people on the subject of bitcoin, and was looking into how i can buy my first small amount of coins. But before i do, there is something i dont understand about generating the bitcoin address. What i gathered is that i can generate my own address by visiting bitaddress dot org. But what is preventing someone to keep generating new address, until he gets my own address. At that time he will have both the public, and privbate key, and is free to spend my coins. Im sorry if this question sounds stupid to someone in this subject, but i just dont get this whole concept, since whenever you generate a new address, you also generate unique private key that corresponds to that address. ty
Evidence some bitcoin address generation code is using discoverable private keys
This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 97%. (I'm a bot)
Someone would be able to capture those coins by simply watching for a transaction into an address that corresponds to a private key generated from Sha256 of one of the existing public addresses. Within the FIRST 48 HOURS of my bot going live, on Jun 19, a whopping 9.5 BTC was transferred into an address for which I had the private key. In the history of both of these addresses, you can see the BTC eventually ended up into this address: 1JCuJXsP6PaVrGBk3uv7DecRC27GGkwFwE. Also, the transaction id was for the previous transaction to the one that put the BTC in the toxic address in the first place. The malicious code sometimes used a recent transaction id as the private key for the doomed destination address. On Nov 12, my program saw 9 BTC transferred into an address that my database had the private key for. If you read his post, he took every precaution including typing in the key for his paper wallet instead of copy/paste and using 2FA. In his case, in Aug 2017, he imported the private key for his 1Ca15MELG5DzYpUgeXkkJ2Lt7iMa17SwAo paper wallet address into blockchain.
Disclaimer: I know I can use wallet/whatever to generate all this. But for the sake of understanding how the whole process I want to attempt try something this way - I want to start off with my brainwallet word - im guessing sha256 hash it - then rip160 hash that output will give me xxxwhatever. from there what are the next steps to creating the private key and public? pretty much I want to dump a bunch of my passwords into a txt file pipe them through to get the private/public keys how would I accomplish this?
So I understand the odds concerning Bitcoin address generation, however....
Isn't if feasible that if Bitcoin takes off (and becomes adopted by the human population) that someone could incidentally generate a wallet that is already in existence and therefore have access to the private key and steal the funds? I mean, while statistically impossible, it is not outside the realm of possibility. So is there any way that addresses could be further protected to protect them from such an event?
I am looking for a developer who can code a simple Android app aimed at generating—offline (i.e. on an air-gapped device)—some bitcoin addresses from custom passphrases. The code will need to be extensively documented in plain English—so that a non-developer blockchain-savvy person—can understand it.
Address Generation There are multiple Bitcoin address types, currently P2SH or pay-to-script hash is the default for most wallets. P2PKH was the predecessor and stands for Pay to Public Key Hash. A Bitcoin wallet is as simple as a single pairing of a Bitcoin address with its corresponding Bitcoin private key. Such a wallet has been generated for you in your web browser and is displayed above. To safeguard this wallet you must print or otherwise record the Bitcoin address and private key. It is important to make a backup copy of the private key and store it in a safe location. What is a custom Bitcoin address? It's a working, normal Bitcoin address in every way except for the obvious difference, the first letters after 1 are chosen by you, for example: 1 JAMES pExQ1QjnqaioJ19MX2K4sjMh7xrz. bitcoin address generation. Bitgen - Bitcoin address generator. The Bitgen software generates crypto currency addresses from a given or generated random number. The bitsig application is a signature tool that sign and verify bitcoin signatures in various formats. Also included in the package is bitcry, which is a public key encryption tool that encrypt/decrypt using the bitcoin elliptic curve. SECTION 4: GENERATE PUBLIC KEY. The first versions of the Bitcoin client used the public key directly. Bitcoin addresses are a simpler method to allow people to exchange bitcoins. A Bitcoin address consists of a Base58 encoded string of a 25-byte binary address. An example of this is shown in final Base58 encoding in step 5.3.
